On Sunday, June 26 a member of Pearland ISD Board of Trustees was killed in a truck accident in Crockett County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety the accident happened on the Interstate 10 at around 9.30 a.m.
Virgil Gant, aged 68 was driving his Ford F250 truck, with two passengers, west on the interstate and towing a camping trailer when strong cross winds caused the trailer to sway and skid off the road approximately 14 miles from Ozona.
The trailer became detached from the truck which rolled twice then stopped on the north side of the road. Gant was critically injured and was pronounced dead around an hour and a half later. The two passengers were also injured and were taken to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo where they were reported to be in stable condition.
All three were wearing their safety belts at the time of the accident.
Gant was the longest-serving current member of the Pearland ISD Board of Trustees having served a total of 16 years. He was first elected in 1997 and served until 2006 and was again elected in 2009.
